Flight Reimbursement

Westgate can subsidize flights for our instructors for up to a certain amount. For an overview of the Spring 2024 flight reimbursement policy, please refer to the Application Information for the Spring 2024 Term.
The full details of Westgate's flight policies and the conditions for reimbursement would be provided to successful applicants at the time of contract exchange.

Medical Insurance

All Westgate instructors are required to enroll in a Japanese government-sponsored medical insurance program (National Health Insurance). It covers 70% of total medical expenses, including pre-existing medical conditions. However, it does not cover the following medical-related expenses: medical checkups, immunizations, normal childbirth delivery, abortions, in-hospital meals, any illnesses or injuries resulting from fighting or drunkenness, and cosmetic surgery. In addition, instructors older than 40 years of age are required to join Japan's Nursing Care Insurance. The municipality in which you reside will determine the monthly National Health Insurance premium, based upon the instructor's annual gross income from the prior year, and the number of dependents. The monthly premium may be deducted from the instructor's compensation.

Employment Insurance

If you expect to be employed for more than 30 consecutive days, you are required to enroll in the Japanese Employment Insurance System (Employment Insurance). Westgate is responsible for deducting the mandatory Employment Insurance premiums from your monthly salary/wage payment.

Workers' Compensation Insurance

If you are injured as a result of an accident at work or in conjunction with work-related business, you will be covered by Westgate's Worker's Compensation Insurance Policy. Worker's Compensation premiums are paid by Westgate. Instructors are required to report incidents and all related details to their supervisors immediately.
